Dermal Filler
What Is Dermal Filler?
What is dermal filler?
Dermal filler is an injectable treatment used to restore lost volume, soften facial folds and enhance the natural contours of the face.
Many commonly used dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found within the body that helps attract and retain moisture. Different products and techniques can be used depending on the area being treated and the result required.
At SV Aesthetics, every filler treatment is tailored to your individual facial features. Our approach is focused on balance and subtle enhancement rather than changing the way you look or creating an overfilled result.
How does dermal filler work?
Dermal filler is carefully placed beneath the skin to add support, replace volume or refine facial shape. Depending on the treatment area, it can help define the lips, cheeks, chin or jawline and soften lines around the mouth.
The best result is not simply about adding volume. Your facial proportions, profile, expression and existing tissue support are all considered before treatment. During consultation, we will explain which areas would create the most balanced result, how much product may be required and what you can realistically expect.

What areas can you treat with dermal filler?
Dermal filler can be used to treat:
-
Lips — to improve hydration, shape or volume
-
Cheeks — to restore support and enhance contour
-
Chin — to improve projection and facial balance
-
Jawline — to create greater definition and structure
-
Nasolabial folds — to soften lines between the nose and mouth
-
Marionette lines — to soften lines extending down from the corners of the mouth
Not every area needs to be treated. Your practitioner will assess the face as a whole and recommend only the areas likely to improve balance and create a natural-looking result.
Things to avoid before dermal filler treatment
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment and, where medically appropriate, avoid non-essential aspirin or anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen as these may increase bruising. Never stop prescribed medication without speaking to the clinician who prescribed it.
Please tell us about any medication, allergies, previous filler, recent vaccinations, dental treatment or changes to your health. Treatment may need to be postponed if you are unwell or have an active infection, cold sore, inflammation or broken skin in the treatment area.
Dermal filler is not carried out during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
How much dermal filler will I need?
The amount required depends on the area, your anatomy and your desired result. A subtle lip treatment may require only a small amount, whereas treating broader volume loss or balancing several facial areas may require a staged plan.
Your practitioner will discuss the recommended product, amount and total cost before treatment. Where appropriate, results can be built gradually over more than one appointment.
Is dermal filler painful?
Discomfort varies between clients and treatment areas. Numbing cream may be used where appropriate and many dermal filler products also contain a local anaesthetic to make treatment more comfortable.
Appointments usually take around 30–60 minutes. An initial result can normally be seen immediately, although the final result should be assessed once swelling has settled and the filler has integrated into the tissue.
